Single-shade universal restorative flows well, polishes easily, and uses LIGHT-DIFFUSION technology to blend seamlessly into surrounding tooth structure
Owing largely to their location, Class V restorations tend to bring with them a particularly unique set of challenges. And yet, for many clinicians, they can easily occupy a sizeable portion of their restorative workflow. Having witnessed this firsthand for many years in his Walnut Creek, CA, practice, Troy A. Schmedding, DDS, AAACD, came upon a workable solution several months ago, when he began using CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal.
“I‘ve been using this product on Class V lesions quite often, and as a result, I seldom use packables anymore,” Dr. Schmedding shared. “It provides a tremendous amount of flexural strength, yet it also offers great color adaptation. Class Vs are a very flat surface, so CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal absorbs the underlying tooth structure very, very well— it’s seamless! It’s my go-to for many of my Class Vs.”
The Magic of Light Diffusion
Kuraray Noritake Dental’s LIGHT-DIFFUSION filler matrix offers natural blending with 2 shades that cover 16 VITA classical shades. This unique technology allows restorations to diffuse light similarly to tooth structure and blend seamlessly into surrounding dentition. Cluster and submicron fillers allow for easy polishing and a lasting gloss finish.
“The simplification is great, and it’s decreased inventory to a certain degree,” Dr. Schmedding said. “The LIGHT-DIFFUSION technology works well and it also allows for easy polishing and finishing.”
Placement with Confidence
A high-viscosity flowable, CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal allows the tooth shape to be retained and is suitable for building up molar cusps and ridges. It also offers a super low flow and physical properties equivalent to many conventional paste-type composite resins.
“The interesting thing about flowables is that they tend to run the gamut from very runny to not runny at all, but with CLEARFIL MAJESTY ES Flow Universal, we have a more stackable, manipulative material, which we generally don’t get with a flowable,” Dr. Schmedding shared. “This allows me to place it and be confident that it will stay put. I’m more comfortable using it in occlusal areas than I usually am with a flowable composite.”
More Dentistry, Less Inventory
Overall, Dr. Schmedding deemed the universal, flowable composite a very versatile product.
“It provides me with an opportunity to perform a wide range of dentistry with a low inventory and still expect good results—whether used in the anterior or the posterior.”
