CLEARFIL™ adhesives have shown exceptional, clinical results in long-term research studies for many decades now. A systematic review of contemporary adhesives was published in 2014 and stated that “CLEARFIL™ SE showed the best bonding performance in NCCL’s” (Non-Carious Cervical Lesions)1. This review also stated:
“This high-quality bonding performance can be explained by the presence of the functional monomer 10-MDP… This chemical bonding promoted by 10-MDP is more effective and also more stable in water than that provided by other functional monomers like 4-MET and phenyl-P.”
The original MDP monomer was developed and patented by Kuraray Co. Ltd. In 1981. The first products available with this new, unique adhesive monomer were CLEARFIL™ NEW BOND and the original PANAVIA™ EX resin cement in 1983. This unique, adhesive monomer in the right formulation creates an insoluble, chemical bond with the hydroxyapatite in dentin and enamel. It also creates a stable, chemical bond to air abraded zirconia and oxidizing metals. Therefore, MDP is what provides clinicians with a true UNIVERSAL adhesive.
“The 13-year retention rate of CLEARFIL™ SE Bond in the present clinical trial was
high (96%), as only 1 restoration was lost in each group”2.
“At the 13-year recall none of the restored teeth showed post-operative sensitivity
(persistent reaction or sensitivity after air blowing or probing the restored tooth surface)”2.
Many other CLEARFIL™ adhesives have similar, long-term clinical results as SE BOND. CLEARFIL™ SE Protect has the same clinical technique as SE BOND but contains a unique antibacterial monomer that provides a cavity cleansing effect as it is etching and priming instrumented tooth structure. The bond has fluoride-releasing and has been clinically proven to have no bond degradation after 1-year, In-Vivo.
Five Year Clinical Performance of An Antibacterial Adhesive System
IADR 2009, Abstract #06233
“With its excellent retention rate, the anti-bacterial
adhesive CLEARFIL™ SE Protect can be used successfully in
high stress bearing areas of the mouth for at least five years.”
“The acid-etching of non-carious, cervical lesions prior to the application of CLEARFIL™ LINER BOND 2V
did not significantly improve the clinical performance of composite restorations after 10 years”.4
