FAQs
What is CERABIEN™ MiLai?
CERABIEN™ MiLai is a dental porcelain designed mainly for the micro-layering technique. This porcelain can be used on both zirconia framework and lithium disilicate framework thanks to its baking ability at lower temperatures and optimization of coefficient of thermal expansion.
What is the micro-layering technique?
This is a technique to reduce the thickness of porcelain layers on a restoration, by using a framework with almost final shape, such as cut back design framework. This type of framework can strengthen the restoration and prevent the porcelain layer from chipping or cracking. Compared to full contour restorations, the micro-layering technique produces more pleasing aesthetics, owing to a thin layer of porcelain on the framework which replicates the characteristics of the natural tooth.
Is the shade line-up of CERABIEN™ MiLai sufficient to handle a wide range of clinical cases?
Yes, CERABIEN™ MiLai is not only easy to handle, but it also delivers a range of shades suitable for most daily procedures. Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc. developed CERABIEN™ MiLai as a result of feedback and suggestions from KOLs in several countries to meet users' needs.
Can I mix CERABIEN™ MiLai and CERABIEN™ ZR porcelains?
No, do not mix different porcelains. It may cause cracking or delamination.
Can I apply CERABIEN™ MiLai Internal Stains directly on zirconia or lithium disilicate frameworks?
Yes, you can use CERABIEN™ MiLai Internal Stains directly on zirconia or lithium disilicate frameworks. Use Bright, colorless and transparent shades, for the area where coloring is not necessary.
Can I use CERABIEN™ MiLai with dental porcelains from other manufacturers?
No, do not use other manufacturers' porcelains as it may cause cracking or delamination.
Can I apply CERABIEN™ MiLai porcelains or Internal Stains, after building up CERABIEN™ ZR or CZR PRESS LF?
Yes, but please bake the CERABIEN™ MiLai layer after baking a layer with CERABIEN™ ZR or CZR PRESS LF, as the baking schedule varies according to the porcelain. For detailed information about the baking schedule, refer to the instructions for use supplied with the product.
Can I apply CERABIEN™ MiLai on dental zirconia from other manufacturers?
Yes, you can use zirconia from other manufacturers unless the zirconia contains CeO2 (Ceria/Cerium oxide). Perform test baking beforehand to adjust the settings of your furnace. For detailed information, refer to the instructions for use supplied with the product.
What should be kept in mind when using CERABIEN™ MiLai?
The layers applied with this product should not be thicker than that of the framework. For example, when the thickness of the framework is 0.5mm, the thickness of the porcelain layer should be less than 0.5mm.
What are the mechanical properties of CERABIEN™ MiLai?
Its flexural strength is 95 MPa.
Can I use CERABIEN™ MiLai to add a contact area on the occlusal surface or the approximal surface?
Yes, you can use it for this purpose.
Should I perform wash baking?
Yes, wash baking enhances bonding strength between the porcelains and the framework made of either zirconia or lithium disilicate.
Some of the CERABIEN™ MiLai shade names are the same as those in CERABIEN™ ZR or CZR PRESS LF.
This is correct. If the name is same, the color is same.
Do CERABIEN™ MiLai porcelains or Internal Stains have fluorescent properties?
Porcelains used for the cervical area have fluorescent properties, whereas porcelains used for the gingival area, which include "Tissue" in the name, do not have fluorescent properties because gingiva is not fluorescent.
Can I use any precise liquid to mix CERABIEN™ MiLai?
Yes, you can. Use LF liquid or distilled water for CERABIEN™ MiLai porcelains, and use IS liquid or distilled water for CERABIEN™ MiLai Internal Stains. Note: Do not use CERABIEN™ ZR Forming Liquid, Meister Liquid, or any liquids from other manufacturers.
Can I apply CERABIEN™ MiLai to any of lithium disilicate materials?
CERABIEN™ MiLai can be used on lithium disilicate materials which have CTE within 9.5~11.0×10-6/°C (50°C~500°C). The recommended shade for the framework varies depending on its abutment colour, target shade or target translucency. For detailed information, refer to the instructions supplied with the lithium disilicate material.
What is Value Liner?
Value Liner is mainly used to control the value of a framework, especially when using lithium disilicate glass. Its opacity is similar to CERABIEN™ ZR Opacious Body. By applying a thin layer of Value Liner, you can control the value of the framework color.
I baked the restoration after building up MiLai, but didn't achieve good results. Why?
The condition of a furnace may not be stable at low temperature. Adjust the baking setting if necessary and test again to see if the restoration can be baked properly. If you bake the restoration correctly, the surface of the restoration should have a slight luster.
Can I use the same baking schedule regardless of restoration size?
For long-span bridges, adjust the baking schedule by lowering the Heat Rate, increasing the High Temperature, or having a longer Hold Time.
What should I use for adding characteristics on the surface of the restoration?
Use CERABIEN™ ZR FC Paste Stain to add fine detail to the restoration.
Does the existing line-up include any new shades?
Yes. For porcelains, Value Liner 1 and Value Liner 2, and for Internal Stains, Blue, Yellow, Tissue Pink and Tissue Red are new shades.
How do I use Tissue Pink?
Tissue Pink is a vivid pink shades that can reproduce a healthly gingiva. This shade does not have the same fluorescent properties of the other Tissue shades, as natural gingiva is not fluorescent. This shade can be used for the gingival area as well as a base colour for the lighter coloured gingival area. It can also be used in the cervical area by mixing it with the Fluoro shade.
How do I use Tissue Red?
Tissue Red is same colour as the existing Red shade in CERABIEN™ ZR Internal Stain. You can use this shade to reproduce the dark gingival area such as the area between roots. This shade can replicate a wide range of gingival colours by mixing it with Tissue Pink. It can also be used in the cervical area by mixing with the Fluoro shade.
How should I select a shade of framework materials to reproduce a targeted shade?
Generally, the value of the restoration decreases and the chroma of the restoration increases, when using porcelains or Internal Stains on frameworks. We therefore recommend you select a framework that is at least one shade brighter. Owing to the high translucency of lithium disilicate frameworks, you may need to layer Value Liner shades of CERABIEN™ MiLai to control the opacity. Please note that the specifications of lithium disilicate materials vary according to the manufacturer. Please refer to the instructions supplied with the lithium disilicate material, or confirm with the manufacturer.
