CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal

FAQ

What is CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low?

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low is the latest addition to the CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ flowable series. It is a light-cure, radiopaque restorative material which provides accurate color matching, high polishability and excellent physical properties, making it ideal for both anterior and posterior restorations. Its key features are:

  • One shade covers* the VITA** 16 shades

  • High mechanical strength: equivalent to Universal type CR

  • Paste consistency with excellent handling

  • Easy polishing and long-lasting gloss

How many shades are available and how are they used?

There are 2 universal shades available: “U” and “UD”.

“U” is the main shade. This shade covers the VITA** 16 shades for Class I and II cavities and the A1, A2 and A3 range for Class III, IV and V cavities.

“UD” is recommended for darker anterior restorations such as A3.5 and A4 (Class III, IV and V cavities)

How does it differ from the conventional CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow?

In CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow, each shade has its own color scheme, which must be selected according to the color of the target tooth.

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low inherits the same characteristics of ease of use, and excellent polishability that have made CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow so popular. In addition:

  • The color compatibility of a single shade has been improved, making it possible to have a single shade covering* the VITA** 16 shades.

  • The flowability is lower, retaining the given shape and adapting to specific needs e.g., building cusps and ridges.

What are the technologies behind CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low that provide for seamless blending?

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low has 3 key factors that make seamless blending possible:

  • Optimized translucency

  • Optimized Light-Diffusion

  • Adjusted chroma

The optimized translucency brings out the color of the surrounding tooth structure by light transmission. The optimized Light-Diffusion makes restorations diffuse light in a similar way to tooth structure. Consequently, the material integrates easily and smoothly into the surrounding tooth structure.

All of these features/benefits, in addition to an adjusted chroma, made the development of the universal shades “U” and “UD”. They provide a neutral color that picks up and blends in with the surrounding colors, thereby offering a chameleon effect.

What positive effect will a universal solution have for the clinician?

Inventory management will be easier: some shades are rarely used but need to be kept in stock. This may result in the product expiring, contributing to wastefulness. Having a single shade minimizes this occurrence. Additionally, some clinical cases could be challenging in terms of shade selection. Having a single shade with excellent color blending can save time and avoid mismatches.

Does CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low require a blocker/opaquer shade as other universal shade composites do?

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low does not require an additional blocker or opaquer shade, either in the posterior or anterior region. This is due to the material’s specific level of translucency and the integration of Kuraray Noritake Dental’s Light-Diffusion Technology.

Flowable composite resins are known for not being strong, limiting their use to cavity/base liners. Can I use CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low as a final restoration material for Class I and Class II cavities?

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low exhibits excellent mechanical properties similar to conventional paste type composite resins: Flexural strength: 152 MPa. Filler content: 78 wt%. This makes it possible to use it as a final restoration material even in the posterior area for Class I and II cavities.

Can I use CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low for veneer cementation?

Yes, CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low can be used for the cementation of ceramic and composite inlays, onlays and veneers with less than 2 mm thickness. Please refer to the Instructions For Use for complete procedural instructions.

What are the indications of CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low?

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low is indicated for the following restorative applications:

  • Direct restorations for all cavity classes, cervical lesions (e.g., root surface caries, v-shape defects), tooth wear, and tooth erosion

  • Cavity base / liner

  • Correction of tooth position and tooth shape (e.g. diastema closure, tooth malformation)

  • Intraoral repair of fractured restorations

  • Cementation of ceramic and composite inlays, onlays and veneers with less than 2 mm thickness

How is the handling of CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low?

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low is a non-sticky composite and was designed with the best handling characteristics in mind. We use a proprietary silane coupling agent to treat the fillers. This and the fact that our composite contains both submicron and cluster fillers (0.18µm to 3.5µm), provide for superior handling characteristics to the paste, improving ease of dispensing, handling and sculpting.

How is the polishability of CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low?

Thanks to CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low submicron filler particles, CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low produces a high gloss and maintains this gloss over time. CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low is extremely easy and fast to polish in just seconds. Even by just wiping the surface with a gauze or cotton roll soaked in alcohol results in a high level of gloss.

I sometimes have voids/air bubble formation when using flowable composite resins. How does CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low behave?

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low is designed to prevent void/air bubble formation during dispensing. It has a specially designed tip that decreases the risk of air bubbles by reducing unnecessary gaps inside. Additionally, the special design of the syringe and plunger limit the possibility of dripping during or after dispensing. The o-ring inside prevents the material from flowing after pressure is released, while preventing the plunger from retracting too much.

Is CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low radiopaque?

In order to allow prognostic confirmation after treatment, CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low has a radiopacity of 1.5 mmAl.

How do I store CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low?

CLEARFIL MAJESTY™ ES Flow Universal Super Low must be stored at 2-25°C / 36- 77°F when not in use. When the product is stored in the refrigerator, it should be left at room temperature for more than 15 minutes before each use to ensure the desired handling properties.
