The possible cause is oily fingers when coloring the restoration. We recommend you wear powder free gloves etc. and use a dedicated Liquid Brush Pen when using Esthetic Colorant. If the surface of the zirconia gets contaminated with grease etc., clean with an ultrasonic cleaner, then dry the restoration in a drying oven at 80-200°C for 30 minutes or longer.

To achieve consistent coloring results, any dust or grease must be removed from the surface of the pre-sintered zirconia before applying the liquid. The colors may not reproduce accurately if the surface of the pre-sintered zirconia is contaminated. After cleaning the surface, keep the zirconia away from metal such as tweezers

Use Liquid Brush Pen or commercially available non-metallic brushes.

The Liquid Brush Pen is not reusable. Once you fill the pen with Esthetic Colorant, you cannot reopen the adjuster, as it may result in reduced performance. For colors you don’t use often, we recommend using commercially available non-metallic pens.

Rinse the brush with distilled water. Then, try writing something on a paper with high water absorbency to confirm whether there is any remaining liquid on it. For Liquid Brush Pen, to avoid reduced performance, refilling with additional liquid is not recommended. Once the pen’s reservoir becomes empty, be sure to use a new Liquid Brush Pen.

If the tip of the Liquid Brush Pen is contaminated with other colors or liquids, rinse the tip with distilled water. Then, try writing something on a paper with high water absorbency to check if the liquid in the reservoir comes to the tip of the pen, that there’s no rubbing or smudging, and if the colors appear correctly on the paper. Do not take the pen apart as this may affect performance.

When using a Liquid Brush Pen, you can increase the chroma by approximately 1 shade (e.g.: A2 ➝ A3) with three layers of Esthetic Colorant applications. Depending on how you paint the restoration, the number of layers needed will vary, however too many applications may result in difficult color control after sintering. Therefore, to find the optimum amount for your purposes, initially apply Esthetic Colorant no more than three times. If you need to change the color of the restoration significantly, use “CERABIEN™ ZR” FC Paste Stain to adjust the shade or add more characteristics.
