Which milling method, wet or dry, is used to mill this product?
KATANA™ Zirconia ONE can be either wet or dry milled.
We recommend dry milling. It is possible to mill this product using wet milling, but wet milling may achieve a lower level of translucency than expected if cooling water is contaminated by silica-based glass ceramics (lithium disilicate glass, etc). It is possible to mill this product using wet milling with clean cooling water but tank cleaning and filter changing are necessary before beginning the milling process. Additionally, when wet milling, additional time is required to complete the sintering process, as a drying step is added into the process.
What points should be kept in mind when using wet milling?
If using KATANA™ Zirconia ONE with other materials such as glass and resin blocks in the same machine, it is necessary to wash the milling chamber and filter, then replace the cooling liquid. Insufficient cleaning of the chamber or filter will result in restorations with inaccurate shade, lower translucency, or a chalky appearance.
We recommend using three separate tanks:
A dedicated glass ceramic cooling-water tank
A water tank for flushing in between restorations, and 3. a dedicated zirconia cooling-water tank
If wet milling is used, a drying process for 10 minutes at 200 degrees is necessary.
Is it possible to mill with Dentsply Sirona’s CEREC inLab for KATANA™ Zirconia ONE CROWN/ BRIDGE?
Yes. You will need CEREC inLab CAM software version 22.1.1 / inLab CAM 22.2.0 or later is required.
Is it possible to mill with Dentsply Sirona’s CEREC inLab for KATANA™ Zirconia ONE SPEED CROWN?
Yes. You will need CEREC inLab CAM software version 22.5.0 or later is required.
Is it possible to use any other sintering furnace than CEREC SpeedFire?
Yes. General zirconia furnaces can be programmed to sinter KATANA™ Zirconia ONE. Please refer to the product Instruction for Use for details.
How do you use the QR code and 7-character code on the block?
Scan the QR code with the Primemill by holding the image in front of the camera until the scan is confirmed as successful. If the scan fails, you can manually enter the block information on the touch interface.
The 7-character code, or Enlargement Factor is used to enter manually with MCX/L for material identification.
How many prosthetics can be sintered at one time in the CEREC SpeedFire?
You may select up to 3 SPEED CROWNS/CROWNS or 1 BRIDGE.
Can CERABIEN™ ZR (including CERABIEN™ ZR FC Paste Stain) or CZR PRESS LF be layered on the restoration?
Yes, it can be layered.
What is the finishing step after sintering?
Once the restoration has completely cooled, you may conduct a try-in. If necessary, make any occlusal adjustments. Application of glaze is optional, but an additional glaze cycle in the furnace will be necessary with this option.
What points should I keep in mind when adjusting restorations after sintering?
If necessary, make any occlusal adjustment by using a diamond bur or silicone points containing diamond particles. Use a copious spray of water or work on the prosthesis while it is wet. Be careful not to apply undue force, since this may cause a fracture, breakage or micro-cracks from local spot heating. Polish the restoration to smooth surfaces that have contact with the opposing dentition.
What is the glazing process?
A thin, uniform coat of glaze may improve your restoration’s aesthetics. Apply sandblasting with gentle pressure (2 bar with 50 micron alumina) to create surface texture. Clean the restoration. Secure the restoration on a peg with refractory paste. Apply CZR FC Paste Stain and Glaze. Choose the Glaze cycle on the SpeedFire. You have up to 2 glaze cycles programmed in the SpeedFire, if needed.
What glaze product do you recommend?
CERABIEN™ ZR FC Paste Stain.
Is it possible to use this product with other manufacturers’ spray glaze?
It is possible to use other manufacturers’ universal low-fusing spray glaze.
Please follow the manufacturer’s Instructions for Use of the glaze material.
How much additional time is the glaze cycle?
The SpeedFire furnace glaze time is approximately 8:40. Other furnace programs vary, but are generally <10 mins.
What is the polishing process?
In cases with pre-sinter polish (material is in its green state), bur marks left by the manufacturing unit can be smoothed prior to sintering. It is recommended to use silicone-free polishers. Polishing should be administered with light pressure and low RPMs.
In cases of post-sinter polishing, upon making occlusal adjustments, polish the restoration with silicone points containing diamond particles, using three levels of polishing, starting from coarse to medium to fine. After that, with a zirconia polishing paste material (Pearl Surface Z, etc.), brush or buff the restoration.
What should you keep in mind when polishing?
Over-polishing may result in a ‘pearly’ appearance.
Is it possible to perform color adjustment or staining of the restoration after sintering?
It is possible to do this with CERABIEN™ ZR FC Paste Stain. There are up to 2 glaze cycles programmed in the SpeedFire, if needed.
Can other manufacturers’ stain be used?
It is recommended to use products designed for glazing zirconia. However, it is possible to use other manufacturers’ universal glaze. Please follow the manufacturer’s Instructions for Use of the glaze material.
Is it recommended to characterize restorations using color liquids (infiltration)?
No. Kuraray Noritake’s unique pigment technology for zirconia and multi-layering lets the user fabricate zirconia restorations with natural color gradation and translucency close to those of natural teeth. As a result, you do not need to add additional steps to your workflow.
Does this product have fluorescence?
The product itself does not have fluorescence, but it is possible to add fluorescence to the restoration with CERABIEN™ ZR FC Paste Stain, specifically Fluoro from FC paste Stain.
What cement do you recommend for use with this product?
An MDP cement system is recommended for use with this product. PANAVIA™ SA Cement Universal, PANAVIA™ V5, PANAVIA™ Veneer LC meet this criteria.
It is also possible to use various cements recommended for bonding with zirconia.
Please follow the cement manufacturer’s Instructions for Use.
How do you clean both the tooth surface and the internal surface of the restoration before cementing?
If the prosthetic becomes contaminated during try-in, etc., it can be cleaned using the following method: You can clean by rubbing KATANA™ Cleaner on both surfaces for 10 seconds each, washing with water and drying.
How do you treat the tooth surface?
PANAVIA™ SA Cement Universal*: No treatment necessary.
If necessary, apply CLEARFIL™ Universal Bond Quick 2* prior to the cementation with PANAVIA™ SA Cement Universal to enhance bond strength to tooth structure.
PANAVIA™ V5: Apply PANAVIA™ V5 Tooth Primer* and dry.
*Apply according to Instruction for Use of the each material.”
How do you treat the internal surface of the restoration?
PANAVIA™ V5: After sandblasting and cleaning, apply CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus, then dry. PANAVIA™ SA Cement Universal: After sandblasting and cleaning, directly use the cementing technique as indicated in the Instructions for Use.
Is it possible to cement the restoration temporarily?

How has 9 minute sintering become possible?
Sintering of zirconia is a thermal process in which loosely bound particles are densified into Zirconia crystal under the influence of thermal energy.
Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc. has developed new zirconia powder that can reach a highly activated state with little energy. It accelerates the sintering process, thereby achieving an ultra short sintering time of 9 minutes.
How is KATANA™ Zirconia ONE SPEED CROWN able to maintain the same high translucency as KATANA™ Zirconia ONE CROWN/BRIDGE while achieving higher strength?
In general, reducing the sintering time is disadvantageous for translucency, but KATANA™ Zirconia ONE SPEED CROWN maintains the high translucency of KATANA™ Zirconia ONE (CROWN) by making the size of the crystals uniform, which decreases the generation of small crystals which is disadvantageous to translucency.
How is KATANA™ Zirconia ONE SPEED CROWN able to achive higher strength than KATANA™ Zirconia ONE CROWN/BRIDGE?
In general, large crystals are disadvantageous for strength. Uniformly sized crystals of KATANA™ Zirconia ONE SPEED CROWN which decrease the the large crystals can achieve higher strength.
The maximum firing temperature in CEREC SpeedFire furnace is 1580°C. I am concerned if the furnace can accurately reach the maximum temperature since the maximum firing temperature of SPEED CROWN is also 1580°C.
