PANAVIA™ V5

FAQ

What is PANAVIA™ V5?

PANAVIA™ V5 is a dual-cure, fluoride-releasing, radiopaque resin cement with a single-bottle, self-etching primer and a single-bottle prosthetic primer. It is available in an automix delivery system.

How is the PANAVIA™ V5 Tooth Primer used?

The PANAVIA™ V5 Tooth Primer is applied and scrubbed, or allowed to remain on the tooth structure for (20) seconds. Use a mild air flow to evaporate the water. The moment that PANAVIA™ V5 Tooth Primer touches the Paste, the curing process is accelerated. We refer to this as “Touch-Cure” chemistry.

What makes the PANAVIA™ V5 Tooth Primer unique?

The one-bottle PANAVIA™ V5 Tooth Primer contains Kuraray’s original MDP formulation. In addition, a new catalyst chemistry provides for the first time in dentistry, self-cure bond strengths as strong as the direct light-cured bonding agent (CLEARFIL™ SE Bond). PANAVIA™ V5 Tooth Primer creates an insoluble calcium salt/chemical bond to dentin.

How is the CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus used?

CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus is a one-bottle treatment for all indirect restorations. Apply the CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus to the internal surface of the restoration and air dry. Instant activation of the surface will occur; no waiting is required.

What makes CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus unique?

CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus provides the strongest bond strengths to eMax (lithium disilicate) and Bruxzir (Zirconia) according to the CR Report from February 2015. CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus also contains the Kuraray original MDP formulation in its purest form, providing a higher bond than other silanes on the market.

How is CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus different from the original CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer?

The original CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer contains MDP and MPS silane monomers, and is used primarily on silica-based or zirconia restorations as a pretreatment to the internal surface of the restoration prior to cementation. This product was introduced as a one-bottle system in 2007.
The new CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus contains many of the features of the original product (MDP and MPS silane monomers; no water; stable shelf-life). This product is used as a pretreatment for the internal surfaces of eMax (lithium disilicate); Zirconia and metal prior to cementation with PANAVIA™ V5. CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus must be used when cementing with PANAVIA™ V5. It will always be applied to the internal surface of the indirect restoration.

Will CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus take the place of Alloy Primer?

CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus can be used on the internal surface of metal and ceramic surfaces prior to cementation with PANAVIA™ V5. It can be used in place of Alloy Primer when using PANAVIA™ V5; however, Alloy Primer will still need to be used when working with PANAVIA™ 21 and PANAVIA™ F 2.0.

Does CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus bond to Zirconia?

CLEARFIL™ Ceramic Primer Plus contains MDP, and will bond directly to Zirconia. It will also bond to a cleaned eMax (lithium disilicate) surface without the use of HF (hydrofluoric acid). This formulation has been copied by many competitors (ex. Ivoclar Vivadent’s Monobond Plus; Bisco’s ZPrime).

Is PANAVIA™ V5 color stable?

PANAVIA™ V5 paste is amine-free, making it extremely color-stable. There is no post-cure color change. This assures a consistent and predictable result each time. PANAVIA™ V5 also has a natural fluorescence, which mimics that of tooth structure.

How many shades of PANAVIA™ V5 paste are available?

There are (5) shades of PANAVIA™ V5 paste available: Universal (A2); Clear; Brown (A4); White; and Opaque (self-cure only). Each shade has a corresponding Try-In Paste, which can be easily removed with water.

What are the clinical indications for PANAVIA™ V5?

The clinical indications for PANAVIA™ V5 include: cementation of crowns; veneers; bridges; inlays/onlays; prosthetic restorations on implant abutment frames; posts/cores; and amalgam bonding.

What is the recommended procedure for cementing Zirconia with PANAVIA™ V5?

The recommended procedure for cementing Zirconia with PANAVIA™ V5 is as follows:

  • Blast the internal surface of the Zirconia with alumina powder; then ultrasonic clean and dry.

  • Apply Ceramic Primer Plus and air dry.

  • Apply Tooth Primer to the tooth structure and leave for (20) seconds before drying.

  • Dispense the cement directly into the crown.

  • Tack-cure with the curing light for 3-5 seconds and remove the gross excess/or remove the gross excess with a small brush and then light-cure the margins.

  • Maintain isolation for an additional (3) minutes.

What is the recommended procedure for cementing lithium disilicate (eMax) with PANAVIA™ V5?

Follow the steps indicated above; however, do not blast the internal surface. Instead apply K-ETCHANT Syringe gel (or HF) for (5) seconds; rinse and dry. All other steps remain the same.
